On March 13, seven beautiful girls took the stage in hopes of becoming the next Miss Payson. They had been preparing since January for this one big night. They put in countless hours in preparing a talent, their best Lifestyle & Fitness outfit, and finding their dress, thus needless to say these ladies have put in a bunch of time getting ready for this. To start out the night the audience was introduced to the contestants through the girls opening dance number entitled “All that Jazz” and, then the audience was welcomed by the evenings emcees’ Nathan Dunford and Miss Utah Whitney Merrifield, and, the 2009 Miss Payson royalty was introduced, Rebecca Rae Batty, Erica Bjarnson, and Miss Payson 2009 Camille Echols.  A slide show was then shown documenting the competition from the early stages and a little background of each girl, including a baby picture and a recent portrait. After the slide show, the ladies were ready to strut their stuff in the Lifestyle and Fitness portion of the contest. The ladies were all looking great in their swimsuits.             Following the fitness and lifestyle competition the girls changed into their dresses for their on stage questioning, and during their prep period the audience was entertained by Rebecca Batty and Erica Bjarnson. The ladies then went in turn out to answer their 2 questions before preparing themselves for their artistic expressions or their talents.             Although there were only 3 winners, in reality everyone in the auditorium was a winner through the girl’s talents. The talents that the girls performed were all memorable. All the girls talents also taught a lesson. These are the lessons I found. Starting out was a dance number by Rachel Whatcott dancing to a song entitled “1 in a million.” From her performance I took that everyone is one in a million and can be special and unique, which goes great with her platform of “Every sole worth saving”. Next up was Sydni Bennett playing a piano piece entitled “The Dance” by JR Cerbie. Her piece was inspirational showing that through music everyone can express themselves. Next to take the stage was Caline Hoover, she used her guitar for her talent, playing a song called “You can.” This taught me and also the girls that you can truly do anything. Sarah Rose Webber took the stage and used her talent of the stage through a dramatic monologue from Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. It is from one of the ending scenes when the two young lovers show their true love through giving their lives. Staying with a musical theme Jessica Kunzler played a piano piece which had the appearance of fire. Jessica who has taught piano for multiple years taught us that quick fingers and the right attitude can always bring the audience to their feet. Julia Waterman would then fiddle a familiar tune “The Devil went down to Georgia” showing that a little competition with a foe like the devil never hurt anyone. Last up to go was Jamie Stanton who performed a dance routine to the song Gravity. I took from this and the girls should too, that you should never let gravity bring you down and you can go far. The end of the competition was nearing but not before the girls could be judged on their presence and poise in their evening gowns. All the girls looked magical in their dresses and everyone in attendance could agree they looked stunning. Before the ladies could find out who was the new Miss Payson the 2009 Miss Payson was allowed to take here final walk. It was a tear filled moment and a bitter sweet time for Miss Payson 2009 Camille Echols. Then it was time for the moment everyone had been waiting for, the crowning of the new Miss Payson 2010. Awards of Miss Photogenic and the Service awards went to Rachel Whatcott and Sarah Rose Webber respectively moving forward 2nd attendant Jessica Kunzler, 1st Attendant Julia Waterman, and the coveted position of Miss Payson 2010 went to Miss Jamie Stanton. “Through the whole experience not only me but all the girls were able to make some new friends and grow together. I look forward to my new responsibilities as Miss Payson” Jamie shared with me also noting that she wishes “All the girls could have won.” All the girls tried hard and should all be given props for their efforts. Miss Payson is a hard pageant to do and takes a lot of work. Good job to all the girls that participated, and also a special thank you to all those who put on the pageant for all their time and efforts to make this year special for all the girls involved.
