The Payson Boy’s soccer team is 2-2 with one of their losses coming in the final minute of the Maple Mountain game. “We got a good win against Spanish Fork and Uinta. We plan on ending the season on a high note with 3, or 4 wins. Right now our goal is to go to state, and we have put ourselves in a good position to accomplish that goal,” said Coach Wright.

Payson High Track

Bryce Dean is an explosive runner, he loves caviar, girls love him, and he is ranked number one in the state for the long jump. The school record for the long jump is 22 feet 4 inches; Bryce jumped 22 feet 9 inches at the Utah County Invitational, but was cut short because the spotter said his hand touched the ground. Bryce, and others say that the spotter was wrong, his hand never hit the ground. Bryce “the jumping bean” Dean will have another chance to break the record on May fifth at the BYU Invitational, the biggest meet of the year, attended by every high school in Utah.

High Hopes For Payson Baseball

Our baseball team faced a few rough challenges last week due to suspensions. They had a couple key players sitting out. Payson went into their game on Tuesday with high hopes against Spanish Fork. They played really strong. Bryson was on the mound and was throwing great. The score was 0-0 going into the 5th inning. Spanish got 5 runs in the 5th and ended up beating us 6-0. “It’s hard to play one of the toughest teams in the nation, but we played great and pitched really well,” said Coach Johnson. Their second game vs Spanish Fork on Wednesday didn’t go well at all.

Payson girls softball had a really good game Wednesday vs. Salem Hills High School, beating our rivals 10-6 at home. Shelby Fridell and Jovana Perez each hit homeruns. Also Nichelle Williams hit a triple that batted in two runs. Overall they played really good. “I feel like every practice we attend and every game we play we improve and get better and better. We are playing really good right now and I am looking forward to the rest of our season,” said Nichelle. “We seniors preached on how bad we wanted to beat the SkyHawks!
