2018 Keys to Success Assembly

Submitted by kate.searle on

Utah’s KTS is an incentive program that gives out “Key Cards” to students during the school year which they can later cash into prizes from free food like Costa Vida to visits to the Natural History Museum of Utah and The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. At the end of every school year, there’s an assembly where finalists that meet certain criteria are required to attend.  This assembly happened on Friday, April 10th.

Fifty finalists were called down by color groups and students were singled out for a mini “interview” where the presenter, asked the student who they wanted to join them down there to give them more luck. Orrin Hapairai called down the entire orchestra, others called down Choir students and the Soccer team to give them a spice of luck.

After every color group, there were small competitions like burrito eating contests, a tricycle race between Ms. Oda and Coach Clark—where Oda was victorious—and a money blowing machine where a student caught money straight from the air.

Close to the end, the five finalists; Delhesmy Solis, Sage Jackson, Lylah Beaudry, Bryson Elliott and Grace Carillo were trying out five keys and inside an inflatable car, there was a box that only one key would unlock. The person who got the compatible key won an iPod and will move on towards a car giveaway.  The giveaway will be transmitted live on KUTV news and five brand-new cars will be handed out to the 10-13 finalists from different schools. A obvious look of pleasant surprise hit Sage Jackson when she realized that her key had been the one that opened the lock.
