College and Financial Aid Night at Payson High School

As part of Utah College Application Week (UCAW), Payson High School is hosting a College and Financial Aid Night (rebranded as “Beyond High School”) on Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The goal of UCAW is to provide every high school senior the opportunity to complete at least one college or university application during the school day, with a particular focus on students who would be the first in their families to attend college, low-income students, or students who may not have otherwise considered applying. In addition to helping seniors with college applications, we are hosting the aforementioned “Beyond High School” college and financial aid night on 10/9 for students, grades 7-12, and their families.

The “Beyond High School” event is open to ALL members of the community, whether or not you are a student or parent at Payson High! Food trucks will be on campus for the event. Games and activities for younger children will also be available, so the whole family is encouraged to come have a fun night together while learning about college and financial aid.

During the “Beyond High School” event on 10/9, college representatives will be available to answer parents’ and students’ questions about college options. Additionally, there will be representatives present from technical and vocational schools, military, trade organizations, and local employers. Those who attend the event will gain an understanding that college doesn’t always mean a traditional degree. For many students earning a certificate in a trade is an excellent option for career-entry or preparation for further education. Students may also be interested in taking advantage of apprenticeship programs post high school, wherein much of their training and education expenses may be covered. For other students joining the military is an excellent option for post-secondary training.

College is an investment. College can be expensive, and figuring out how to pay for it can seem overwhelming. Luckily, Utah’s public universities have the fourth lowest tuition in the country, and there are many resources available to help students prepare and lots of different ways to get the money needed.  At the event on 10/9 expert help will be available to help seniors and parents complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Representatives from a variety of scholarship funds will be available to discuss financial support for college.
