Congratulations are in order to Evyn Staheli and Thobe Talbot who are the Class of 2019’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian, respectively. Not only is this a great honor but it also comes with the opportunity to speak at graduation. Traditionally both the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian are known to give the farewell address to their class to offer inspiring words of both remembrance and encouragement for the future. Staheli and Talbot will be speaking along with current Senior Class President, Bailey Savage and the Principal’s Choice, Logan Bennett.

The Valedictorian and the Salutatorian are chosen purely through their own hard work reaching the top of their class. Staheli and Talbot both have 4.0 GPA’s and are ranked highest in their class academically. The formula PHS uses to determine the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian is a 4.0, dividing the ACT score in half, then awarding a ½ point for every honors class and a whole point for every AP or CE class taken. The student with the highest amount of points is the Valedictorian and the next in line is the Salutatorian. Staheli is quoted saying, “I’m so excited to be presented with this honor. I worked really really hard in school and I’m very proud of where I am.” Talbot says, “I think it’s really awesome and a great opportunity for me to have courage for college.”

These two students can be used as great examples of what hard work and dedication looks like. There are so many fantastic students here at PHS with so many different passions. As the Class of 2019 moves on we look back on their time here with pride.
