First issue of the Lion's Roar News takes on a bold new look

Just weeks after school started, 21 students joined forces to create an incredible school newspaper. This first issue, with its bold new look, shows the creativity and diversity of not only the students within the class but also of the school.

"I love that it's not just for one type of student," says team member Harrison Judd, "it's for all our students."  One of the lead designers, Emily Miller, adds, "It's not just for the jocks or the nerds, it's for everyone."  Some members of the team mentioned that students, teachers, and the community will all find something within the issue to apply to their life and once they see that story, they'll just keep on reading because something else will catch their eye.

Having a paper for everyone is a strong driving force for the newspaper team. That mentality is part of the team's motto for the year.  On the cover of the paper, it reads "This is Our Story" which was the theme chosen by students during a newspaper camp held during the summer. The team was able to meet and make some big decisions, long before any tardy bells were ringing.

Along with a new theme, the paper has a new look.  A stunning logo, lots of colors and a variety of pictures fill the pages.  The team is proud of their first issue.   It was a great learning experience.
As the team critically looked at their writing and design, they were able to make strong goals for their next issue.

"We will probably never have a perfect issue," says their teacher, Mrs. Searle, "but that won't stop us from trying."  Students learn the in's and out's of journalism, but also have to learn photojournalism and newspaper design skills, and they only have a few weeks between issues.  Mrs. Searle adds, "They are amazing students and they have created something that the whole school can be proud of."
