Girls Basketball: Taking a Shot to Make the Shot

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The Girls’ Basketball team has been practicing hard from 3 to 5 every day, and is ready for their first game on November 26 – a home game against Cottonwood.

There are technically 16 gals on the team right now, though three of them have been injured recently. Those three couldn’t try out with the rest and will have a separate tryout to see if they’ve made the team.  So we’ll see if Coach Hiatt will let them play.

Despite these small challenges, the Girls’ Basketball team is still optimistic towards the season.  Let’s hear what some of the girls think!

Q: What do you think will be different with this year’s team?

A:            “We’ve got a different attitude, and I think we’re ready to bring it,” Co-captain McKinley McMullin said.

“We’re running things differently this year, the classmen are pushing us, and we’ve been practicing all summer. I think we’re ready to go!” Alex Ford said.

Q: What are some of the goals for this year?

A:            “We want to win. We’ve had more pressure physically to push us. We want to be a threat and have a reputation.” McMullin and Ford agreed.

Q: How far do you think the team will go?

A:            “I think we will go far this year. We have a good team this year and we work well together,” said another co-captain, Nicole Drake.

Q: In your opinion, what makes a good player?

A:            “A good player is someone who is not selfish and is willing to sacrifice themselves for the team,” Drake said.
