The Key to PHS

Payson High School Key Club is probably a clique that you’ve heard of before, but you may not know very much about. The fact is, PHS Key Club is a highly underrated group in our school. Knowing this, you may be wondering, “Who are they and what exactly do they do?”

Key Club is a service and leadership club that is found in schools all throughout the US. Founded in 1925 by the Kiwanis organization, Key Club is the oldest and largest service oriented club for students. Together the Key Club strives to be leaders in their communities by doing acts of service. “We tend to focus more on community service and the difference we can make in our own community,” says Ashlyn Sharp, the current president of the PHS Key Club.  “Anyone can be involved. I definitely recommend joining. It’s just a good experience to be in key club. Anyone can join and it’s fun!”

When asked about a favorite project that they’ve done, Ashlyn said, “We haven't done a whole lot of big projects since we are having a hard time getting started, but my favorite project was the christmas tree that we made for the Tree Festival. Our christmas tree was Harry Potter themed and it was fabulous. I was so proud of it, I wanted to cry.”

All in all, Key Club definitely holds the key to the heart of PHS. It’s a fun experience, a great opportunity to make more friends, and a perfect way to better yourself through service. “Everyone has the opportunity to be a leader in Key Club,” says Ashlyn Sharp, and you can too!
