Lion’s Roar Triumphs at Journalism Conference By: Audrey Miller On February 18th, The Lion’s Roar Newspaper staff joined 12 schools at the Deseret News Journalism conference held at Utah Valley University. This year, they came home with two major awards.  The Lion’s Roar took third place in Front Page Design. Layout editors, Kari Haskell and Zachary Quist were extremely happy that all of her long hours working on making the paper great paid off, “Whoo! Our staff has really worked hard this year, so we are pleased to see our paper get recognized,” said Haskell. Sophomore, Mercedes John, crushed the competition by taking third place in the Best News Story competition, with her article about Payson High’s debate team. “It was neat not only to get recognized for my writing as a sophomore, but also to have the opportunity to learn from people with so much experience in journalism,” said John. Good job Mercedes, and good job to all of the staff!  The Lion’s Roar is well on its way to a successful future!
