The Payson Lion Paysetters had their first invitational competition on December 3. They did very well, placing third with their character routine, (which is the western swing that was displayed at the Payson vs. Salem game.)

Cassidy Burton took first place in the drill down. The drill down is when someone is calling out military commands and the dancer does the commands.

On December 2 the Paysetters had their solo competition and Becca Brown and Lexie Ward competed. Lexie Ward placed fifth out of sixteen girls which is very good when competing against so many girls.

This year the team is made up of 30 girls which is the biggest team that Payson has ever had. This is a very good strength for the girls because the more girls on the floor to compete the more chances they have to win. Another strength is the number of technical dancers that the team has, and all the variety of talent on the team. The Paysetters are coached by Chelsea Judd, she has been coaching for three years.

“I get the privilege to see the sophomore girls I had my first year of coaching as seniors now. Over these three years I have seen them grow as dancers, physically and mentally and it makes me love coaching even more,” said Judd.

The Paysetters have many goals for this year’s competition season. The team is in competition get all the points on showmanship. Showmanship points are awarded for performance in the face like smiling and expressive and showing eyes.

Coming up with the routines is a team effort, each girl has their option on coming up with either their own routine or having coach Judd come up with it when performing their solo dance. The team routines are made up by Coach Judd or guests who help come up with the routines with girls.

There next drill competitions are on December 17 at Delta High, January 14, 2012 at Murray High. Region begins on January 26, 2012 at Juab High. The times vary so talk to your Paysetter friends to find out the times to go support our Payson Paysetters. Another opportunity to support them is on January 11, 2012 starting at 6 p.m. in the main gym. That night it is Paysetter night which is the night that the Paysetters get recognized for the talented routines and for all the girls to get recognized as dancers and for the seniors to be recognized as well. So come out to support our Paysetters on these days and especially on Paysetter night.
