On March 14-16, members of the Payson FFA chapter, as well as some competitors, attended the Utah State FFA Convention at Snow College in Richfield, Utah. We had several winners from the Payson FFA chapter in a lot of the competitions. Payson’s FFA was awarded the 5-Star Chapter Award, the Superior Chapter Award, 100% membership, 10% membership increase, and the Utah State Fair Sweepstakes Swine, Crops, and Overall award. Payson’s parliamentary procedure team, consisting of Mariah Manookin, Zachary Wall, Wyatt McDaniel, Carlysa Openshaw, Hunter Siggard, and Breanne Moore took 3rd place at state.

We also had many individual competitors take home awards. Winning the state level with her prepared speech was Kristen Robbins; also Zachary Wall won in the Extemporaneous Speaking competition. Rachel Rowley won the Utah Council of Farmers and Cooperatives Scholarship. The State Degree is the highest degree achievable in the Utah Association, and Payson’s FFA chapter’s Mckell Wall, Rachel Rowley, Hunter Siggard, and Kristen Robbins each received this award.

Not only did Payson’s chapter win all these awards, they also had many excel with their SAE’s. Tanner Child was awarded 1st runner up with his Star State Greenhand in Agribussiness. Also proficiency awards were presented to Zachary Wall, Hunter Siggard, Rachel Rowley and Kyler Thomas.

“State Convention was really fun, we got to meet new people as well as hang out with some of our best friends. We became closer as a chapter and ended up winning a lot more than expected,” said Wyatt McDaniel.

Hunter Siggard, Payson’s FFA President, was gave the opportunity to run for Utah State FFA Office. Over the state convention time, Hunter was running for president, and eventually announced as Utah State’s 2013-2014 FFA State Treasurer.

“Everyone had a really great time and represented Payson well. Running for state office was a great opportunity and I look forward to the experiences that lie ahead,” said Hunter Siggard.

Payson’s FFA chapter did really well at the state level and represented Payson very well. Congratulations Payson FFA! Way to represent!
