As a part of red ribbon week, a Zero Fatalities representative came and spoke to the students of PHS. Zero Fatalities is a program that tries to eliminate unsafe driving. Using the phrase “Don’t drive stupid”, they talk about risks such as drowsy driving, aggressive driving, impaired driving and not buckling up.

To emphasize the dangers of bad choices on the road, the students were shown videos of various car accidents caused by these bad choices as well as told many touching stories about people who had either died in car accidents or survived them depending on their choices to buckle their seat belts.  These messages affected many students.

“I think that the assembly opened my eyes to what can happen in a car crash, and now I know how to increase the survival of my friends and myself by driving safe,” said Casara Reeves.

Faculty members were also affected by the assembly.

“It was a good reminder of why we should drive safely. You don’t want to live with the alternative,” said Mr. McGuire.
