Will Payson be able to take state again for the third year in a row? Yes, winning state will be a lot harder this year but that is the teams overall goal.  There are 40 boys on this year’s wrestling team including 7 returning state placers. We have three state champions: Brady Loveless, Zac Loveless, and Mitch Brown. We also have four state placers: Jed Mellon, Cole Ford, K.K. Loveless, and Austin Riding.

Coach Loveless is feeling excited about the wrestling team this year.  “We have a good group of returning state placers to build the team around, and good new kids who will fill in the empty slots. We are looking forward to this new year,” said Coach Loveless.

Mitch Brown, one of our returning state champions, is feeling confident that this year’s team is willing to work hard. He is excited to see how this year ends up. “This year will be great. Tough mentally and physically. But that’s why we do it. Taking state will be a challenge that we will all, as a team, have to want more than anything else and work harder than everyone else. I think the team this year is prepared to do that. So it’ll be a fun year,” said Mitch Brown.

These boys are willing to work hard every single day to meet their goal of taking state. We must be willing to help them by supporting our team. We must attend all of the matches we can to cheer on our amazing team. The first wrestling match is here, at Payson High on December  1, at seven o’clock against South Summit.
