Payson High Students Get Published

Submitted by katie.kelly on

We are very proud of our students, Daxon Geldmacher and Melissa Ward, who were both recently published in Utah Valley University magazines.

Daxon Geldmacher was one of around 4 high school students to get their short story published in Utah Valley University’s “Warp & Weave” magazine. Daxon heard about this chance to be published by his teacher, Mrs. Parker.

Daxon is a senior here at Payson High School. He started writing a short horror story at the end of his Junior year. He took a short break from writing, then picked it back up again this last summer. Overall, it only took him a few weeks to write the whole story. Writing this story has not been the easiest, but Daxon mentioned that it’s nice to have made something that’s his.

The magazine was released at UVU’s “My Word! Journal Launch Night” on December 5th. This is a very wonderful accomplishment for one of our very own PHS students.

Melissa Ward's short story was published in Utah Valley University’s “Write Outside Yourself” magazine earlier this year. She heard about this chance to be published by her teacher, Mrs. Parker.

Melissa is a senior here at Payson High School. She started writing this story at the beginning of this year in her free time. The story, in total, took her about 3 weeks to write. Melissa’s short story is a comedy about somebody with multiple personalities. Melissa says her experience in writing this story has been “Interesting, not what I expected, and cool to experiment and develop characters.”
