On the evening of Friday, September 11 Payson High School Cross Country team hosted their annual “Night Hunt Invitational” at the Hillman fields Baseball and Soccer complex. Four teams were in attendance including Salem Hills, South Sevier, Tooele, and Payson. The races started at 7:00 p.m and continued until after 9:00 p.m. Varsity races were ran in the dark with lights streamed throughout the course. Payson competed well with many top finishers on the team. Juniors Tiana Argyle and Haley Dixon placed 2nd and 4th in the girls Varsity race along with Alyssa Sutton in 10th. The girl’s team took second place and added another trophy to their growing collection. On the boy’s side Payson Sophomore Ryden Anderson took 9th place with Senior Emilio Leiva mere seconds behind in 10th. The boy’s team also took 2nd place and got a new trophy. Salem Hills took 1st place on both the girls and boys side as well as in the girls and boys Junior Varsity races. Senior Chayden Zeeman of Salem says “I like Payson’s Night Hunt because it’s different than any other race. I’ve never ran a race in the dark. It makes it a lot more enjoyable and fun because you can’t see where you’re going, you just follow a little light on the ground. Also it’s not 500 degrees when you’re racing.”
