On January 21, Payson High’s Paysetters were put to the test in region. They competed against five other schools, including Maple Mountain, Uinta, Spanish Fork, Salem, and Springville, to be in the top four. They awed the crowd as they strived to make it to state. Unfortunately, they were unable to make it, and Maple Mountain took first place. “It was really fun; we did our best. We didn’t place, but it was still a good experience,” said Makayla Mecham.           There was a good chance that they would have made it because of how hard they’ve worked to build up the team. They competed in three categories: kick, dance, and military. Each of the schools had a theme, ours being the Pink Panther. “I think it’s the best we’ve done. We didn’t win, but we reached a lot of goals. I’m proud of the girls for their good sportsmanship.” said Drill Coach, Chelsea Judd. They all agree that they’ve been doing well even though the year has been tough.          “The best part about being in Drill is that we’re always practicing, always working hard, and we have so much fun doing it.” said Drill captain, Liz Katell. Katell was inspired to join Drill by watching them perform when she was a kid. Now she still loves to dance with her friends in all of the competitions. She is one out of many that enjoys being a Paysetter. As long as they keep up the school spirit, Payson High’s Drill Team is going to go far. Good job on region, we’re waiting eagerly for another great performance!
