Submitted by katie.kelly on

Throughout the summer a group of athletes from Payson High have been running the town from the top of Payson Canyon to West Mountain to Elk Ridge and everywhere in between. Their hard work is beginning to pay off as the cross country season has officially started. The senior varsity boys cross country team is currently ranked #1 in region after a solid pre-region win against the other Region 8 teams on August 22. On Saturday September 5 they ran against some of the best teams in Utah which are also some of the best in the nation. In the elite race Payson finished 10th of the top 20 teams 4th in 5a schools. This year’s team is lead by Colby Orton and Adam Pray who are both running sub 16 minute times in the 3 mile courses. Four other runners have  sub 17 minute 3 mile times including Miles Graymountain, Caden Rasmussen, Spencer Bennett, and Dylan Whitney. Four other seniors Jackson Fitzwater, Kasen Johnson, Tyler Page and Cameron Scholl are helping push the pack with sub 18 minute times. The girls are working hard as well. They are led by sophomore Autumn Huntington and Junior Kortnie Lemmon. Payson will be hosting a tri-meet Wednesday September 23 at 4pm. Wear your masks and come cheer them on as they prepare for the region championship meet at Springville the following week.
