Last week was the Dance Company workshop, and if you were looking to try out for Dance Company, improve your dance techniques, or just looking to have a good time then the Dance Company workshop would have been great for you. We had a pretty good turn out this year including the new Dance Company teacher who came to this event. We started off by warming up with Holly Petty the recent dance teacher. Following that we had our Dance Company president Carolle Abraham teach us more about the way our body could move, through vibratory moves, percussive, swing and a few other movements. After that Melissa Lyman and Nicole West led the partnering phase. This part was really fun I enjoyed. And it was a time for the girls to break out of their shells and become more comfortable as they worked with someone else. We learned things like putting our weight on our partner and seeing that they could really hold us up. After we finished using a partner the girls were then split into three groups where they would learn a different dance in each place. Carolle Abraham taught a dance called fame, Rachelle Whatcott and Bethany Vanmoose taught a dance they choreographed. Each of the dances the girls learned will be shown in our concert. We took about forty five minutes to teach those bits and pieces of our dance and when that time was up we all showed each other what we had learned. It was really cool seeing how much fun the girls were having performing and putting all their energy into it. After the performances we were then led in a cool down by Ale Hernandez and Hillary Menlove, the cool down is where you stretch and lay down on the floor breathe and just relax, it was really good since we had been dancing for three hours. It was nice to relax. What better way is there to end the workshop then with popsicles? That’s right no better way! Dance Company has been a lot of fun this year and I encourage everyone to try out. Doesn’t matter if you have had years of dance or no experience at all Dance Company is for everyone and anyone! Even you boys! Oh and p.s. don’t forget to come watch our Dance Company performances May 14 and 15 thanks!
