Payson High School’s production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying was a thriller!  Put together by Director Dane Allred; Music Director, Melodie Henderson; Choreographer, Holly Petty; and Co-Music Director/Choreographer, Clinton Blanco, this play brought together a lot of really great actors and actresses.  “I enjoyed seeing so many people on stage at once and giving everyone a new opportunity,” said Mr. Allred.

This musical was about an inexperienced window washer, J. Pierrepont Finch (played by Spencer Kersh), who studies a book about succeeding in business.  Because of the influence of this book, Finch applies to work at the World Wide Wicket Company in hopes of getting a job in business.  First, he is hired on as a worker in the mail room then slowly climbs the executive ladder while following the guidelines given in his book.  Soon, he becomes Vice-President to the big boss, J.B. Biggley (played by Sam Kidd), due to the advice in his blessed book.  Along the way, he meets Rosemary (played by Belen Moyano), who instantly falls in love with Finch’s charm and good looks.  As a matter of fact, they later fall in love and share not one, but three romantic kisses in the play.  Coincidence?  I think not!  Unfortunately, Finch’s success soon fades when he makes a huge executive decision that negatively affects the World Wide Wicket Company.  Does he end up being a successful businessman in the end?

This play was freaking hilarious folks!  Merciful heavens.  The acting by everyone was very impressive.  I loved all of the musical selections put together and especially enjoyed “Coffee Break” as the whole office went through withdrawals without their morning coffee.  Another excellent song was “Been a Long Day” sung by Finch, Rosemary, and Smitty (played by Rachel Hansen) as it finally brings Finch and Rosemary together for a dinner date.  Twas so adorable!  Because of this hysterical musical, I’m definitely looking forward to the coming plays this year.  Way to go cast, crew, and directors of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying for starting the year off with a great show!
