The FFA motto is “Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, and living to serve.” Payson High’s FFA is the perfect example of this motto. Being part of FFA is no easy task though, FFA members take a written test and are expected to identify the quality in cuts of meat, and identify the quality in yield grade of beef, pork and lamb. The meat evaluation team; consists of MaryAnn Rowley, Katie Swenson, and Fred Openshaw; won first place in state! “FFA is a way to grow personally and gain new leadership skills through agricultural,” said Rowley.

The FFA went to Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana; on October 19. Teams from every state headed there to compete. “It was the best trip I’ve ever been on. I had a lot of fun and I learned at the same time,” said Nicole Barnett. During nationals there is a Creed speaking Contest, which the contestants have to recite from memory the FFA Creed and answer questions from a panel of judges. Sophomore Hunter Siggard received a bronze for his hard work.  The meats evaluation team received a silver ranking—way to go! “It was an amazing experience,” said Rowley. Ellary Swenson was the national winner this year and received a scholarship and won a paid trip to Costa Rica! Way to go FFA!
