Payson High School’s performing arts groups have put the fine in arts throughout the year.  Choir, Drill, Dance Company, Band, Color Guard, Orchestra, Cheer, Drama and Pipe Band have had many competitions and/or performances throughout the year and have done very well.

Payson High’s Bel Coro, Women’s Chorus, and Men’s Chorus went to region festival on April 2.  Bel Coro received all 1’s, which are like A’s.  Men’s Chorus received all 1’s also.  Bel Coro and Men’s Chorus qualified for state, but decided not to go because of schedule problems.  Women’s Chorus received all 1-‘s .  On April 26, Trouveres went to State Solo and Ensemble and received two 1’s and one 1-.  Bel Coro went on choir tour to Seattle, Washington from March 20-26.  Don’t forget to come to the last choir concert on May 23 at 7 p.m.

Drill placed 2nd in region.  Becca Brown, Kaylee Petersen, and Cassidy Gull placed in drill-down at region.  In February, Drill traveled to Disney World to perform.  Eight senior girls will leave drill this year.

Payson High’s orchestra received 2’s at region.  Now don’t compare them to choir.  At region, orchestras are graded more harshly than choir.  Only one orchestra qualified for state in our region.  At region, band received 2’s also.  Jazz band received a 1 and a 1-.  Orchestra and Band will perform at graduation.  Marching Band received 4th place overall.

Color Guard took 3rd at state.  They never received below 2nd place in all their competitions.  Color Guard accomplished these feats with only 9 members of the team.

Dance Company has performed several times for the school this year.  They also went to BYU for a full-day class of dancing in different genres and traveled to Disneyland.  The girls have enjoyed dancing together all year long.

Pipe Band performs in the Payson Scottish Festival and the Thanksgiving Point Scottish Festival every summer.  Last year, they received 1st place at Payson and 2nd place at Thanksgiving Point.  Pipe Band also performs in parades and assemblies throughout the year.

Cheer participated in their first competition this year.  The team experienced no drama.  They just had fun with each other and became good friends.

Payson High’s Drama Department put on three shows this year.  The first one was The Twelve Dancing Princesses, a musical based on the story by the Brothers Grimm.  The second show was See How They Run, a comedy by Philip King.  The last show was Magic Theater, a children’s play.  The plays were very popular and had large audiences for every performance.

Payson High School has had some pretty talented performing arts groups this year.  Don’t forget to support them in their last performances  this year and all of their performances next year!
