With their Stethoscopes in hand Payson HOSA went up to Layton to compete in the HOSA state convention the 18th and 19th of March. Payson’s HOSA placed so much! Who would have thought that there so many events to compete in?! “You can compete in Nursing, First aid events, speaking, presentations, Medical Assisting and Medical Photography. There are so many events you can compete in, it’s awesome” said Ashley Byington. Speaking of the Devil, Ashley took second in her Extemporaneous Speaking event! Ashley was given 10 minutes to prepare a 5 minute speech on HOSA volunteerism. Brianne Penrod and Shelby Judd took first in their Health Education Event! Brianne and Shelby went down to Wilson Elementary school and taught a lesson to second graders on the Human Kidney and how it works, after teaching they prepared a portfolio and presented it to Judges who awarded them first place!  Ashley, Brianne and Shelby have qualified for Nationals in ORLANDO FLORIDA! But they’re not the only ones who placed. Jessica Christiansen and Luara Wear took 4th place doing CPR and First Aid and if one of the other three places can’t make it, they’re going to Florida too! Jessica and Luara practiced CPR and First Aid on a medical “dummy”. Jessica Smith took 6th in Medical Assisting. Jessica was required to take a test and then do what a Medical Assistant would actually do. Saralyn Winget and Katelyn Olson took 6th place in CPR First Aid as well. Over all Payson HOSA walked away from the Convention with first place in their gloves. Our Payson HOSA program is a force to be reckoned with! If you see one of these HOSA members give them a high five and a Job well done! They deserve it!
