PHS Marching Band places top three at two competitions

The marching band has worked hard this season to get to where they are. On Oct. 16 at the Wasatch Tournament, Payson High’s marching band placed third in their division. This is the first award they have received this season, and everyone was excited. “I feel like the band is doing great. We have a great attitude this year, and attitude is key because if we have a negative attitude we are going to put out a bad show. So, I think our attitude this year is amazing,” said McCaslin Owens, drum major.

“In the end, we placed third place out of all nine bands we were competing against. The band is making constant progress, and we are trying to do our best each competition,” said a member of marching band, Garth Jensen.

The marching band also competed on Oct. 23 in Davis where they were able to place third place, just a sliver behind Salem Hills High School. State is on Oct. 26 in St. George, and the team is looking forward to competing there. “At state, I hope we just keep doing what we love and just play the music. I hope that we will continue doing our best,” said Jensen.

“As for state, we have a good chance at placing. We just need to keep up the hard work and I think we go it,” said Owens.

Good luck to marching band as they travel to St. George to compete! After they compete at state, the members are looking forward to what’s ahead as the band travels to California to begin their California Tour.
