PHS Students Participate in Solo & Ensemble Competition

Hard work, hours of practice, and strained vocal chords finally paid off on April 26 when the PHS Chamber Choir, along with a few other select choir students went to State Solo and Ensemble at Orem High. Despite the early hours in which they performed, the students’ voices were all warmed up and ready to sing.

The Trouveres sang first, giving their all. They performed “Il Et Bel Et Bon”, “A Boy and a Girl” and “Walkin’ Down that Glory Road.” After all was sang and done, their final score was a 1 and a 1-. That is the equivalent of an A and A-, so obviously they did exceptionally well.

There are a great amount of talented singers from our school, and a good number of them were brave enough to sing solos at Solo and Ensemble to be judged. Katie Gneiting, Catherine Havens, Heather Skousen, Jalon Watts, Jacob Hayes, David Green, Skyler Fitzwater, Jessica Bastean and Katie Morgan all performed either a Classical or Celtic solo. Katie Gneiting was the student with the best score, a 1. The rest of the students followed closely behind with three 1- and five 2+.

There was only one mixed ensemble from Payson High School, and they represented our school well. They took the time out of their schedules to find coordinating times to meet and practice outside of school. The group consisted of Jacob Hayes, Riley Crump, Skyler Fitzwater, Matthew Webber, Emily Garrett, Jamie Finch, Katie Gneiting, and Savanna Nichols. To their great pleasure, they accomplished a score of 1.

We’re all proud of our choir students and their phenomenal job this year. In the end, all that they put in finally came out.
