PHS Track Season Begins: Run Like a Lion

Ready, set, gunfire.  You take off out of the blocks as fast and as hard as you can manage.  Your arms pump hard, you breathe steadily and try not to notice the quick movement in the opposing lanes.  You zone in on the finish line, you have to reach the finish line.  By now you're in a dead sprint to the finish, giving everything that you’ve got.  You cross the line, feeling like death it’s self.  Forget walking off the track, you can’t even stand anymore.  You hurt and ache, and love every second of it.

Maybe that isn’t how your view of track looks though.  Maybe your whole world is trying to jump over a bar with perfect, precise movements.  You see yourself sprint with everything inside of you to get just enough momentum to get over the high bar.  Maybe that’s not it all.  You see, it could be that you sprint those 14 steps just to  catapult yourself forward and up finally falling a into a pit of warm sand.

If that’s completely different than how you see a track meet, you must be a thrower.  You must feel that weight in your hand, breath in deeply and use every muscle in your body to launch the heavy object into the air.  You let all the tension in your body go, and focus on throwing further than you imagined.  You go through the steps just one more time in your head, and step into the ring.  You move your body fluently and put full force into a beautiful release.

Track is one of the oldest sports in the world, and offers so many different ways to stay in shape and enjoy yourself!  It’s a more relaxed sport, but requires hard work and dedication if you even dream of improvement.  A lot of sweat, blood and tears go into the season, but the results are so rewarding.

Our Payson High track team has an incredible coaching staffs who works hard to make you the best athlete you can be.  They are all trained and decorated in their own victories from years past.  Each coach specializes in  different events on the track team, and is dedicated to help in these areas.  They want you to succeed, and will put everything that they can give into a practice.  All you have to do is try your best.

So if you feel that depressing drag of being in between your sports, come out for track!  If you want to get in shape and get a great workout everyday, join the team!  Tell your friends and peers, the team turns away no one!  You’ve got so much potential, and who knows, you might just be the next Usain Bolt.
