PHS: Under the Influence of the Hypno Hick

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

April 8 was the annual Hypno Hick, and this year I actually got up on stage along with many other Payson High students. The audience was ginormous because everyone knows how awesome the show is. The best word I can use to describe my experience is different. I definitely wasn’t like I usually am, which is unlikely to draw attention to myself. But up on the stage, I just didn’t care what anyone thought (obviously, because I scratched some guy’s feet and then rubbed my nose). It was actually really fun. I felt like I could stop any time, just hop off the stage, but I didn’t want to. It was just so easy to do whatever Shaun said. I remember talking to the people around me, even helping to protect a wallet that was being passed around. Truthfully, I’m not sure if I was hypnotized. I was aware of the audience and that I was supposed to be hypnotized. I felt like I was just playing pretend, but I did get the intended effect: I heard and I obeyed. I wouldn’t have minded continuing for the rest of the night. After I hopped off stage I felt a little dreamy, like I was floating through air. That might have been because I felt so comfortable. Hypnotism takes away the conscience, and whether or not I was hypnotized, I had fun, the audience had a great time, and I felt fantastic!
