PHS Wrestling: Back to Back State Titles

Payson High School has witnessed history: the first back to back state championship!! Our wrestling team dominated in 2009, and they’ve done it again for 2010 baby! In fact, we had 16 wrestlers go to state, 13 placed in the top six, and 5 Payson High School wresters, Mitch Brown, Zac Loveless, Brock Brown, Colton Cannon, and Brady Loveless, placed 1st in the state by winning both their matches at state! Cannon had this say about the team and the championship, “As a team, we’ve been working hard together since we were freshman, and all that work has paid off. We dominated!” With three region titles, two state championships, and several awards from tournaments, domination is an understatement for this team! At state, the team won easily with 258.5 team points, a 32 point lead over 2nd place Box Elder High School, which easily gave Payson the state title. That’s what I’m talking about! Coach Loveless, head wrestling coach, has worked with these wrestlers for several years, and he couldn’t be more proud. “They set a goal at the beginning of the season to win back to back state championships; they got it done, and did a great job,” said Loveless. These wrestlers are an example to all of us, they worked hard and it paid off in the end. I would encourage all of you to apply this principle to your own life: work hard, get things done, and it will pay off in the end for you! Nice job Payson High School wrestlers, you dominated, and you made the students of Payson High proud to be Lions!
