PHS Wrestling Pumped for New Season

Payson High is known statewide for our incredibly talented wrestling team.  The question is how far will the wrestlers go this year? Do they have a good chance at taking state?

With thirty-five driven boys on the team there’s already a strong chance for success in region and state.  Will Ford, Hagen Loveless, and Derek Johnson are the team captains this year, and there’s no doubt that they’re pumped and prepared to take some people down.

“I think our experiences from the past seasons will be the key to winning state this year,” said Henry Clinger.

The team’s goals for the season are to win region, naturally, and proceed to win state.  They’ve placed second in state the past 2 years, which only makes them work harder for the year.

Mr. Clark, the wrestling coach, believes his team can take state.

“I definitely think we have a shot at winning state this year.  We always have dedicated and talented players and this year isn’t any different.  I’m just trying to gear them in before Christmas so they’re prepared for the meets,” said Clark.

Coach Clark is preparing them with practices every day and even additional practices on certain days.  Extra practices are what will put the team ahead of the others and hopefully make a difference this season.  The Payson wrestlers don’t mess around, on or off the mats.

The first meet will be on December 5 against Salem Hills, at Salem Hills High School.  Payson High needs to stay ranked as the best wrestlers around, so go and support them.  And don’t forget, Payson wrestlers: Finish the period!
