There’s one word that can sum up how the world feels about this years session at the winter olympics. Wow! World renowned athletes have stated that this year is one of the most successful and world changing events in world history. But, to truly understand the full wonder and amazement, you need to know the background of what has happened the last couple of years at the olympics.

The olympics started back in ancient Greece, and since then they have grown in popularity and have become an event that spans across the world. In this span of time, the event has been retired and reborn a couple of times. It has also been postponed and cancelled because of world issues and arguments. One popular example is when the 1916 Summer games were cancelled because of threats and the onset of the First World War. This happened again with 1940 and 1944 because of World War II.

The games taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea this year is the follow up season to the Winter games held in Sochi, Russia in 2014. We have previous competitors returning from the four year waiting period. Such include Gus Kenworthy, a returning freestyle skiing star. Along with him, Lowell Bailey, a three time Biathlon athlete from the USA. There’s many more athletes from various Countries and who are individually talented and bring a challenge to every competitor this Year!

Words cannot describe how amazing and talented everyone is this year! Starting off, Olympic Skater from the US, Mirai Nagasu was the first woman in America, third Overall, to complete a triple Axel in an Olympic Competition. She scored 137.53 at the Olympics, putting the USA in second behind the “Olympic Athletes from Russia” (OAR).

Another feat for the USA includes a 17-yr-old from Colorado. His name is Red Gerard. He is the youngest Snowboarder from the USA to win a Gold Medal at the Olympics.

Despite what Country you route for, we can all agree that this years olympics were amazing, and we can’t wait for 2022!
