Shifting the Focus from Sage Testing to the ACT

Submitted by kate.searle on

Our school goal is shifting. Mr Ford, and other teachers have decided to shift the focus from Sage testing to the ACT. Mr. Ford stated,”We are making the shift because we are looking at what test is more practical for the students, and the ACT has more practical applications for students.” The ACT can ultimately decide what college a person attends and how much of their schooling can be paid for them. Some colleges, like BYU, take the students GPA and their ACT score to accept the student or not.. The ACT is very important and has more real life applications and that’s why the shift is happening.

Payson High School is allowing a lot of different opportunities for their students to be able to study and learn tips for the ACT. The school is offering a class before and after school twice a year. Both classes are offered 4 weeks prior to the ACT test to really get students ready to take on of the most important tests of their lives.

The ACT is very important and shouldn’t be taken lightly by students. Mr. Ford also said that e had two students come through here, one of them had a 4.0 and scored a 30 on the ACT, the other one also got a 4.0 GPA, but only got a score of 23 on the ACT. The first student got full ride scholarships, but the second student who was still a great student got a lot smaller scholarships because of their ACT score.

“I’m not trying to say that the Sage Test is bad or anything,” Mr. Ford explained it really well by saying,”It’s not that the Sage is bad, it’s just didn’t provide really useful data for our students.” He continued to say,” The Sage does provide data, but it just doesn’t provide the same data, and importance as the ACT.”

The school is really trying to show the importance of the ACT. They really want students to care about it as much as they do. The ACT can really impact your future, so for those who haven’t taken the test yet, start getting ready now! Take advantage of useful tools that our school has given you, and I guarantee the ACT will become a lot easier.
