Throwback Thursday: Sweethearts Royalty

On Valentine’s Day, the school celebrated with the annual Sweethearts Assembly. Like always, the contestants for Sweethearts’ queen were introduced before they each individually showed their cakes. Earlier, the cakes were judged on taste, but during the assembly, the cakes were auctioned off simply on looks. After a heated competition, the final cake was sold, racking up a total of $1,247. This money goes to the FFA and helps support them throughout the year. At the end of the assembly, the winners were finally announced. Sweethearts second attendant was Genesis Figueroa, with Karey Hanks as first attendant, and the Sweethearts Queen was Jordyn Liechty.

Throughout the week, the girls participated in many different competitions. Liechty said her favorite event of the week was Farm Day. “It was fun to hang out with my friends and do things we’ve never done before,” she explained. On the day of the assembly, Liechty was at state swim, so Abbey Christensen stood in for her. When Liechty was announced queen, her “phone went off.” She explained how her phone was suddenly buzzing nonstop with words of congratulations from her friends. The assembly was such a fun time for all the students who attended and was able to raise quite a bit of cash for our school’s FFA.
