What's 'Gowan' On in Mrs. Gowan's Classroom

Submitted by kate.searle on

Mrs. Gowans is not only a teacher here at Payson High, she’s also a mother to one of our very own students, Zac. This gives her another insight on how teenagers think and feel. Not only does she teach Biology, Psychology, and is in charge of Student Council, she’s also one of the favorite teachers here at PHS! The question you might now be thinking is, why is she a student favorite? Mrs. Gowans has been known to be a little rough when in class “bringing down the whip” when it comes to dress code, however also being very sentimental, with students who have family issues or who are just very emotional themselves. Mrs. Gowans tries to connect with students, however she doesn’t let students go crazy in her class, she manages to keep the class in control while teaching and making the lesson stick. Mrs. Gowans is known as well to pay close attention when teaching, making sure the students know what’s allowed and what’s not.

In class Mrs. Gowans jokes around allowing the students to be comfortable as well as under control. She’s also very open and willing to move her schedule around for you, her student. She wants you as a student to get the material that she’s trying to teach, she wants everybody to succeed! When asked why she thought students love her class so much she answered, “I try to be real, I never sugar coat things.” Not only does is she always enthused about her students learning and using the knowledge she gives them, she knows they’re no longer young little kids, these are almost adults! She makes sure that she is appropriately teaching her seniors and sophomores. Everybody should really find out what’s ‘Gowan’ on in her classroom. Take her class now! Before it’s too late!
