When is it too Old to Trick or Treat?

Halloween is coming! This is the time people start asking, “When should teenagers stop dressing up to go Trick or Treating?" Is there a difference between going ‘trick or treating’ and just dressing up? The most abundant answer to dressing up is: You’re never too old!

Young and old are allowed to have fun and dress up as whoever they want to be on Halloween. Parents usually decide what age their children should stop trick or treating.  Most parents that were interviewed said trick or treating should end after children finish elementary school. However, some youth go well into high school despite what their parents think, dressing up and grabbing pillowcases to fill with goods. After more intriguing interviews we found some parents answered,“Never!”  They claim you are never too old to stop trick or treating. When you’re grown up you go trick or treating with your kids, so do you ever truly stop?

However, another group of parents said, “As long as they will dress up in full costume they can go! If all they want is a piece of candy for heaven's sake give it to them!” The phrase “trick or treat” comes from when little kids used to ransack houses on All Hallows Eve. Children would get dangerously violent, not just your usual ‘toilet paper the house’ and ‘egg the door’ type thing. Back then they would smash windows and break down doors, it was a dangerous time. So to put a hopeful end to the violence, parents offered the cruel kids treats so that they might stay away from their house, so came the phrase, “trick or treat?”

Most kids often don’t have to be told to stop trick or treating, they generally just grow out of it. So are teenagers ever really too old? The most common answer that we could find was,“NO!” So dress up and go find yourselves some candy, cause you’re never too old for chocolate!
