The Young Lion

Football season is always an excitement. For students, for families that support, for the coaches and especially the players. With Timpanogos as the first home game of the year. The mighty lions have already faced a huge trial, one that could affect the whole season ahead of them. In the first half of the game, the quarterback, Matt Van Moos (a senior) tore his ACL and is out for the remainder of the season. Then following, Hank Bowers (a Junior) stepped in ready to play, but not long after he suffered a collarbone fracture and was taken out of the game and for the rest of the season.

Now finally, it was up to the 3rd string quarterback, Logan Wride (a Sophomore) to step up. And unfortunately later into the game, Logan ended up with a torn MCL, but still managed to play through the rest of the game. That was Logan’s first varsity game, he shared his feelings on being the starting quarterback as a Sophomore. He said, “I feel a lot of pressure, because I’m not use to playing against Juniors and Seniors, they’re a lot bigger than the Freshman I was going against last year. And there were only a couple people that came to the games and now there is a whole school watching.” Logan is very determined to come back from his injury, and has promised to work harder and to be the best he can be for the sake of his team.

Head Coach, Derek Campbell, has complete faith in Logan being able to do his job and be the best quarterback that he can be. Coach Campbell went on to say, “As a coaching staff we expect Logan to perform well. Just because he’s young doesn't mean that he has less responsibility, or special treatment. We expect him to do his job to the best of his ability, because it's his responsibility to step up and lead his team.” Logan sat out the second game against Carbon. Jaidon Tueller (a Senior) who has passed experience as a quarterback, has taken up the responsibility, until Logan can return in full health, and led the mighty Lions to victory and will continue to do so until the young quarterback returns.
