A new year, a new magazine, and a whole lot of new stories. It's February, the month of love and laughter and we really hope you love this month's magazine. We have a little something for everyone this month. For the mystery lovers, we have the story of the mysterious Western Arms pennant. For the dance lovers, we have an article on Payson High School's amazing Dance Department and for the learning lovers, we have an article all about the Advanced Learning Center in Salem. So, without further ado, we present to you this months edition of The Mane Street Journal.

Payson High School has always been known for their incredible student section and for always being involved in every sporting event, but there is one sport that tops just about all of them when it comes to attendance. A sport that gives a different meaning to entertainment, a sport that can go from 0-60 in a blink of an eye, and a sport that causes it’s fans to make the whole building quake. If you haven’t guessed it yet, then obviously you have never been to a single one of these games. I’m talking about the next generation of showtime basketball.

It's common for a sports team to gather together and huddle  before the start of a tournament or a game. What is the reason for this huddle? The huddle is known to boost morale and for teammates to give each other “good luck,” but, sometimes it's more of a tradition. For example, a famous cheer for the cheerleaders is during their performance at halftime games, they gather into a group and yell, “AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A PAYSON PARTY, CAUSE A PAYSON PARTY DON’T STOP! ROAR!”

In the January Edition of The Lions Roar Newspaper we have decided to recreate old time black and white photos that are around the halls at PHS. Most of you have probably noticed the photos of different sport teams, clubs, and activities from our past that line the halls. These photos are packed with 100 years of history. Uniforms, outfits, and styles have definitely changed, but it is undeniable that our school spirit hasn’t.

Here at Payson High School we all love to do different things with different people.

PHS Swim team has done amazing this season! With the region competition right around the corner, these students work hard to qualify for state. Unlike other sports, the only races that matters for state is region. This Year Seth Peterson, Travis Pitcher, Kaden Flippen, Case Kunz, have had a record breaking season, and are going to state.

Every year, the school drama and choir teams put together a school production, and each year they are phenomenal! Some years they are well heard of stories, such as Alice in Wonderland, or West Side Story. But some years they are somewhat unknown, like last year’s The Drowsy Chaperone. But that doesn’t matter, because every year the directors and production team truly put their heart and soul into the show!

Miss Payson 2017 Kaisley Theobald is collecting shoes for Burkina Faso, Africa.  Theobald says, "all the shoes collected go to people who have worn down, holey shoes with no soles or to kids who have never owned a pair of shoes in their life. We have the luxury of having a couple pairs of shoes or shoes that we don’t even wear. We are so lucky!! If you are cleaning out your closet, I would love to take any shoes off your hands!"
