Welcome Back Payson High

Submitted by kate.searle on

Friday August 25, Payson’s Student Council put on an assembly that introduced the 2017-2018 theme, got the students excited for the upcoming events and pinned each grade against each other with head-to-head competitions. From the very beginning the students were making noise, cheering, laughing and singing along to the songs being played.

The Young Lion

Football season is always an excitement. For students, for families that support, for the coaches and especially the players. With Timpanogos as the first home game of the year. The mighty lions have already faced a huge trial, one that could affect the whole season ahead of them. In the first half of the game, the quarterback, Matt Van Moos (a senior) tore his ACL and is out for the remainder of the season.

This year Payson High School has been blessed with the opportunity to have a ton of new faculty members and teachers who are excited, not only to be Lions, but to teach something to the students of Payson High! Last year PHS had some teachers that decided to write their life story somewhere else by retiring.  On a more positive note, this year Payson High will be gaining ten new teachers! (and other faculty members). One in the math sector, two in the science sector, two in the english sector, two in the History sector, and one in Resource.

#WORKHARDPLAYHARD

Submitted by kate.searle on

Students and teachers at Payson High School love to work hard but they also love to play hard.  Throughout the 2017-2018 school year, students and teachers will be featured each week working hard or playing hard by using the hashtag #workhardplayhard.

Over the summer, faculty and staff at PHS have been working hard to get ready for the new school year.  But which educators found time to have a little fun too?

Mr. Dane Allred

Submitted by kate.searle on

Mr. Allred has been teaching at Payson High School for 27 years. After retirement Mr. Allred will continue to teach at BYU and will also continue acting. Mr. Allred is currently acting in a production at Sundance called “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” What he is going to miss most is harassing students. The advice that Mr. Allred has for his students is to “get to know the people you go to school with,” and also that everybody should go to college “if you can do high school you can do college.”

Connie Mattinson and Diana Steele

Submitted by kate.searle on

Connie and Diana have been working together in the main office at Payson High School since “forever”. Mr. Ford says, “Connie has been here before I was born, and Dianna was here when I was being potty trained.” They both attended the school as students and never left. Connie and Diana were cheerleaders and the whole town had a lot of school spirit.
