Penny Wars Assembly Raises More Than $900

Submitted by katie.kelly on

On November 6, Payson High School’s student council put on an assembly to kick off the annual ‘Penny Wars’. Written to resemble the famous “Twas the Night Before Christmas” poem, the assembly held everyone’s attention as the school laughed while raising money for families in our community. The school was blessed with performances from the Dance Co. and Cheerleaders, the chaos of the Mansetters, and the talent of our student council. During the relay, the crowd cheered for their class, or just cheered for the scandalous kisses under the mistletoe. Finally, students donated money in order to be able to pour all sorts of food onto the student council member of their choice or Dr. Rockwood. As always, the assembly was a competition between all three classes. As the final vote was counted, the class of 2020 took home the Spirit Staff for the very first time!

Amy Blake, SBO of Assemblies, was very excited with the results of her assembly. She loved the participation of the students and was amazed when they came together in order to collect over 900 dollars in cash- not counting coins or venmo. Blake explained how, after the donations are done, the student council will go to Walmart and buy Christmas for many families in need, then they wrap all the gifts, put them in big garbage sacks, and deliver them just like Santa. “You don’t realize the full extent of what you’re doing when you donate,” Blake says with emotion. Keep up the good work Payson and let's make this Christmas one no one will forget!
