On Thursday October 1, PHS cross country team hosted two time Olympian Jillian Williams and her husband Dustin who is the head trainer for the US Olympic track team. Jill is a former US record holder for shot put. She won the silver medal at the 2011 World Games and another silver medal in the Pan Am Games in 2015. Her story of overcoming devastating injuries to be able to compete and triumph in world class competition was an inspiration to the team. Her advice to young athletes is to enjoy multiple sports while young because not only will it prevent burnout but it allows your body to use a variety of muscles that help you to avoid injuries caused by specializing too early. She starred at Stanford University and later went to BYU to work on her master’s degree. That is where she met her husband Dustin when she was in rehab from one of her injuries. Dustin has been able to go to 5 Olympics so far as trainer for the US Olympic track team.
