PHS Red Ribbon Week Assembly

After the great showcase of Payson’s talent, guest speaker Heather Anderson spoke to PHS about the importance of living a drug free life.  Anderson is one of the spokes people for DARE, is an executive member of the of Utah Council for Crime Prevention,  she serves on the National Crime Prevention Association, the former Miss Utah USA, and a runway model and much more.  She knows what it is like to be tempted with drugs and alcohol, and to have someone close to you go through and addiction.  Anderson told the story of how she first handedly saw the effects of drugs on her little brother.  It was a very touching story of how drugs not only hurt your own life, but also the lives of your family. Anderson is very passionate on living a drug free life and helping teenagers to make the decision to also live a life free of drugs.

The Red Ribbon Week assembly was quite a hit. FCCLA chose the theme of this year’s assembly to show off some of Payson’s greatest talent.  The talents were judged by Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Blake and Mr. Wright. Chamber Choir kicked off the talent show case by singing Sing Me to Heaven.  They did a beautiful job, and got great reviews from all the judges except Mr. Wright.  He said the other talents should be glad that the choir set such a low bar to beat.  Despite Mt. Wrights comment, you did great Chamber Choir!  Following the choir the audience was entertained by the Paysetters.  “We don’t need weed to succeed!”  The drill team did a great routine with their rockin’ red shorts and got great reviews from all the judges, except, of course, Mr. Wright.  The Paysetters have a lot of great talent, good job drill team! The cheerleader also did an amazing job.  They started off their routine by shouting their promise to stay drug free.  “It’s no joke we don’t smoke!”  Mrs. Morgan commented, “This is one of the best cheer routines I have ever seen.” Thanks FCCLA for putting on a great Red Ribbon Week and motivating the school to live a drug free life.
