PHS: Eggonaughts Take to the Skys!

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Earlier this year, physics students got to see a rocket test up at Promontory Point.  Now physics students get the opportunity to build and test their own rockets, launching an egg up to four stories.

The students certainly got a challenge with this project.  They have to launch a rocket made from a two-liter bottle and give it at least 5 seconds of air time.  That’s not so bad till you add the egg.  More points go the teams with the least damaged eggs, but there are many obstacles in the way to break the egg, namely the ground.  Students are forced to come up with creative ways to protect their egg with Styrofoam, cotton balls, parachutes, really anything to it coushioned.

In the end you end up with a bunch of eggs, large messes, and very satisfied class mates who in some cases got their own Mythbusters style explosion.
