PHS Color Guard

Look out for that rifle flying through the air; it’s our Payson Color Guard! The color guard is responsible for all the sparkle, the magic in the band. From the color of their flags to sparkle in their smiles they make flags fly high and rifles spin wild. “It’s not always easy, sometimes we have a hard time doing all the visuals” said Summer Simmons. Some of the visuals include dancing, jazz walking, twirling the flag’s and rifles and all sorts of crazy things.  Our color guard is doing great this year, with a new instructor, Rachel Moody they’re improving fast. “The feeling of performing is amazing, being on the field and putting together what we’ve spent countless hours practicing” said Katelyn Dunn. Katelyn is our Color Guard Captain, and she’s in charge of 10 members! Four come from the Jr. High, and the rest are high school students. In no particular order: Katelyn Dunn, Camille Dial, Jennett Olson, Summer Simmons, Hanna Ford, Austin Robbins, Taneezha Gardner, Shelby Cook, Katie, and Kim Hammons.

Without the help of the color guard the marching band would be pretty dry. With the assistance of the color guard the bands chance to place in the competitions increases dramatically. There are still some more competitions coming up, in fact there is one up in Logan at USU this Saturday, the 31st! We hope to see you there!
