The marching band at Payson High school has always been one of the shining, winning groups at Payson High.  Now one more year can be added onto their 30 year winning streak when the PHS Marching Band ended the 2011 fall season with 10 trophies and a second place award at the state competition.

“This was one of our most successful seasons,” said Mr. Collins. “This year we were younger, smaller, there were no superstars this year, but they all pulled together and the spirit of unity was stronger than ever before.”

The marching show for this season was called Journey of Space and Time with three movements:  Saturn: the ringed planet; Apollo 13 (theme from the movie) and Klendathu Drop.

“It was our best performance,” said Drum Major Caleb Larson.  “I was very happy with how the marching band did this year.”

Senior Caleb Larson, hopes the band to continues their tradition of winning.

“I want them to keep their winning attitude and their desire to win; I also want them to keep having fun playing music,” said Larson.

The marching band season lasts for nine months, from the beginning of summer to the end of November.  The last four months of the season are specifically for competition.  Opportunities come for getting a trophy for overall performance, and caption trophies for drum line performance, color guard performance, musical performance and visual performance of the show.
