PHS Wrestling: Pinning the Competition

That time of the year is upon us once again;  The wrestling season is coming to a close, and the PHS wrestling team is looking to do some work in state.  Payson has had dominance in the state tournament these past couple of years, and also a long history of success in state as well. 

 “I think we’ve had a tough team every year.  We just go out there and wrestle hard and get after it,” said Jordan Mellen, one of Payson’s best wrestlers.

 “I mean we lost some tough kids from last year, but we also gained a lot of tough kids as well,” said Jordan.  Jordan seems very enthused about the team’s chances.  It seems Payson takes strength in their toughness

After talking with Jordan, it seems the wrestling team is very confident in their chances to take a 1st place state title (which could be the 3rd in four years!).  I must say after watching this team wrestle, I am very confident in them as well. 

Payson has had some recent tournaments and matches include a close match against Delta, which was a great match, but Payson ended up on the losing side 39-33.  After Delta we wrestled man handled North Sanpete 70-4!  The most recent duel was against Carbon, who we dominated 64-15. 

Well the wrestling season is coming to an end, and Payson is looking as dominant as ever.  There are only one or two weeks left in the season so make sure if you get the opportunity to go to a match, you better get your butt over to the match and cheer on the might lions!!!!
