On September 26-27 the Payson High FCCLA officers kicked off the school year with a fall leadership conference at the Marriott in Provo.

The conference was a two day event in which FCCLA officers from all over Utah got together to be motivated, to learn leadership techniques and experiences, and to keep chapters excited about FCCLA. Our state theme for this year is “Pack Your Bag!”

“At the conference, I learned you have to step out of your comfort zone in order to make a change,” said Nicole Kunzler.

The officers not only learned about leadership skills, there was a variety of laughter and excitement.

“I loved staying up late with the girls and playing the sugar game,” said Emily Shaw.

There was also an opportunity to listen to guest speaker, Brad Barton, and to attend leadership workshops held by state officers.  At the conference, members heard about scholarship opportunities, and how FCCLA can benefit us in our future.  Members also had a chance to meet FCCLA members from all over Utah.

“The best part of the conference was definitely Partying with the officers and meeting new people,” said Nicole Kunzler.

Although the conference was informative and motivational, officers had fun as well. Games, music and friends all made the conference a success.

For those of you who don’t know what FCCLA is, you are not alone. FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA is a national organization helping students become more consumer conscious and community minded. FCCLA helps students become productive community members, efficient businessmen and woman and come to focus on families. FCCLA is a great way to get involved, gain leadership skills and make friends.
