HOPE Squad

“Protect the Pride” is Payson High’s HOPE Squad’s theme. The members of the HOPE Squad want to reach out and be your friend. It isn’t enough for most people to feel cared for and safe at school; the members of HOPE Squad want everyone to feel that way. HOPE Squad is dedicated to trying to make Payson High a better place for all who attend. Many members of HOPE Squad have expressed that they want Payson High to be a place where everyone has and is a friend. That is why the HOPE Squad is here: to bring hope to those individuals who feel there is none left.

HOPE Squad is a group that focuses on uplifting students, brightening students’ day, and preventing suicide. Mr. McGuire, along with many others, wanted the HOPE Squad program to be implemented at Payson High.

Upon hearing of the HOPE Squad many faculty members decided to get on board and become advisors such as Mangum, Neilson, Eliason, Rockwood, Griffin, A. Wright, Morgan, Kaddish, Brotherson, C. Wright, Gowans, Newbold, Benson, Ford, Gillie, Mcguire, and Loveless. The HOPE Squad has Mrs. Heimuli and Mrs. Lefler as parent advisors.

If you feel like suicide is the only answer, talk to the HOPE Squad. If you know someone who is struggling with suicide, be a friend and tell the HOPE Squad. If life is just becoming too difficult, the HOPE Squad wants to be there for you.

Though you may not have a shirt that says “HOPE Squad”, you are still needed to make a difference. It is doing small, selfless acts of kindness that will prevent suicide. Don’t be afraid to do what is right. Be bold. If you see someone being bullied, stop it. If you notice someone sitting alone, sit with him or her. If you know of someone who is contemplating suicide, tell someone. You could be the one thing between life and death.

HOPE Squad, along with the whole school, needs to make a difference this year. This year will be a bright year with everyone trying to make a change. This year will be the year of HOPE.
