Choir Tour 2015

This year for choir tour, the Payson High Concert Choir went to Disneyland. On the way to California, the concert choir first stopped at SUU to do a clinic with a professor there named Kevin Baker. After this, the choir had a choir exchange with Canyon View. (A choir exchange is where both choirs get together and perform for each other, spend some time singing together, and get to meet new people.) After singing for a bit then stopping for lunch, the choir then headed to Las Vegas. That night in Vegas, we had the chance to see the play Newsies at The Smith Center. Once the play ended, the choir kids boarded the busses once again to finish the last 4 hours of driving to Anaheim.

Friday morning, we left our hotel early in the morning to head to the park. Once we got into Disneyland, we took our annual group picture with a little help from our friend The Mad Hatter. We spent the rest of the day park-hopping between Disneyland and California Adventure. Saturday morning, we performed at the Heritage Music Festival competition in Disneyland. Our concert choir performed first, followed immediately by the chamber choir. Both choirs received critiques from amazing music professors from the west coast. The rest of Saturday was also spent at the park, until that night when we had the awards ceremony from our competition. There were dozens of other schools that attended the competition, attending from Alaska to Nevada and lots in between, including our neighbors Carbon High School and Timpview High School. Both of Payson’s choirs received Gold awards and won first place in the division.

Sunday morning we all woke up early and packed up our things. That morning, we attended an LDS Sacrament Meeting in Los Angeles. After this, we went to a Baptist church service about two blocks away. We sung three songs here, after which we had a picnic in the basement of the church. During lunch, we had our choir tour awards ceremony. This year, to stick with the Disney theme, each member of the choir was assigned a Disney character that best fit their personality. After cleaning up lunch, we departed for the Getty Art Museum. The Getty is one of the world’s largest art museums, and the only museum of the Western United States that features pieces from Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh. The museum also includes antique furniture, statues, gardens, and much more. After the museum, the choir had one last dinner together at Red Robin in Los Angeles and departed home.

Choir tour 2015 was definitely a trip that will not soon be forgotten!
