The Last Football Game

Submitted by kate.searle on

Last Friday, our proud Lions went into battle with the Spanish Fork Dons. This was not only our last game, this was our Senior Night! Our senior players and cheerleaders were spotlighted and respectfully announced. This was also the first game that our brand new Lion Gate was used. It was organized by Ethan Dixon and it now stands proudly at the southeast side of the field, where our Lions enter.

At halftime we were trailing at 8 to 20. However, we still had hope after the amazing performances, despite the cold, by our remarkable cheerleaders, Paysetters and Drill Team. There was also a special announcement made at halftime that Bart Peery was inducted into Payson High School's Hall of Fame. As well as being a great coach he was also a great teacher and leader. We’re so thankful to have had him here at Payson High School.

After a great halftime our team then emerged from beneath their new gate, hopeful. However, that hope wasn’t enough to pull us out. The final score was 14 to 41. It was a hard loss but it’s not the wins that make us proud, it’s the strength our team has. Even though they knew at the third quarter the odds were against them, they found the strength to get down on the line and defend the quarterback, again and again.

We don’t ever quit, we never give up, we never let it get to us, and that’s what makes us united. That’s what really makes us a Pride. GO LIONS!!
