Les Miserables at Payson High School

Submitted by kate.searle on

Every year, the school drama and choir teams put together a school production, and each year they are phenomenal! Some years they are well heard of stories, such as Alice in Wonderland, or West Side Story. But some years they are somewhat unknown, like last year’s The Drowsy Chaperone. But that doesn’t matter, because every year the directors and production team truly put their heart and soul into the show!

This year we’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to put on a show that many people love and adore. Its name being Les Misérables.

Les Misérables is a french Musical and translates into: The Miserable Ones. Like I said, the Musical is French, and takes place during the early 1800’s. The Musical actually started out as a Novel written by Victor Hugo. The Novel follows a man named Jean Valjean, a previous convict, and a man changed by kindness and forgiveness. There are multiple plots and stories happening during the story, and they all tie-in to Val Jean, and how he looks to God to fix the problems in his life.

Along the way, you’ll be introduced to many characters that help shape the story and the atmosphere of the musical. You’ll really start to get a feel for how corrupt and evil the French government was at the time, and why certain story elements come into play.

The Directors of the show, Rock White and Marilyn Morgan, have put lots of time into the show, as well as the cast and crew! Some casting Includes,

  • Brandon Harris as Jean Valjean

  • Cambrielle Fitzwater as Fantine

  • Justin Freeman and Seth Cowie as Marius

  • Max Bennion, and Evan Brandley as Javert

And many, many, many more!!

The Cast has been phenomenal, and if you see a name you recognize, come and see it! The show will be performed on the nights of January 24th - January 29th
