On May 1, baseball lovers and community members came together at the “Strike Out Cancer” Payson vs. Lehi baseball game to support Dena Hiatt and her fight against cancer. Hiatt, whose son is on the Payson Baseball team, expressed in an email to Payson High, “It is things like the coming together of a small little baseball community on our behalf that reminds me how much love and support we have. No matter what happens we will be alright!”
Supporters donated items that ranged from baseball equipment to goodies and blankets. Fans were encouraged to “Bid on the cause, not the item” which resulted in $5,200 total funds raised. The next day, at the Lehi High baseball field, as the Lions battled the Pioneers again, many were touched as the Lehi Baseball team wore pink to show their support of the Hiatt family and presented the family with a gift basket.
“It meant so much to see so many people supporting the cause and Payson Baseball,” says Hiatt. She adds, “Thank you for all your donations whether it be money, auction items, time out of your busy lives, all the baseball parents working on our behalf, your kind words and prayers.”
We wish the Hiatts the best as they continue their fight.
