Two Payson High School teachers are practicing what they preach. They aren’t just encouraging their students to develop and share their talents, they’re doing it too.

Payson High’s Stan Peck and Marilyn Morgan perform key roles in Payson Community Theatre’s production of Jekyll and Hyde. Peck plays Sir Danvers Carew, a man brutally murdered by Dr. Hyde, and Morgan plays Dr. Jekyll’s very proper Victorian fiancée, Emma Carew.

A tale of alter-egos and murder, Jekyll and Hyde isn’t typical musical theatre.

“Jekyll and Hyde is a show that is not performed often in Utah because of the dark nature of the theme. However, it is a classic story of the battle between good and evil that each of us has to go through every day,” said Peck.

Other Payson area teachers contributing to Jekyll and Hyde are Spring Lake Elementary’s Perry Ewell and Spanish Fork Jr. High’s Kris Holly; Payson graduate Rebecca Pehrson, plays Dr. Hyde’s love interest. The Musical Director for Jekyll and Hyde is Justin Bills, of Salem Hills High School.

“There is not a weak voice in the entire cast. It is a remarkable experience to be able to be surrounded by so much talent every night,” said Peck.

Jekyll and Hyde runs August 19 to September 5. Performances are held at Payson High School in the Little Theatre, Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and at 2:00 p.m. September 3 and 5.
